Ladybird Readers is a graded ELT series designed for children learning English as a foreign or second language, taking classic Roald Dahl tales and adapting them across eight CEFR-aligned levels. This 7-book set spans Levels 1 to 4. The Twits (Level 1, Pre-A1) uses short present-tense sentences ideal for absolute beginners preparing for Cambridge Pre-A1 Starters. James and the Giant Peach (Level 2, A1) introduces past tense and simple adverbs, building toward A1 Movers. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Level 3, A1+) expands vocabulary and comprehension for Movers-level learners, while The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me and The Enormous Crocodile, also Level 3, continue this progression with longer sentences and more complex structures. Esio Trot and The Magic Finger (Level 4, A2) push readers further with multi-clause sentences, modal verbs, and a wider range of tenses, preparing children for Cambridge Flyers assessments.
